More About Honeypie Nature Playschool....

Through observations of the child’s interests and needs, the program is designed to meet the needs and interests of each child. Through my daily communications with parents, I learn about each family’s cultural values and create culturally appropriate environments. Active listening techniques are used, allowing children to express their feelings, and to talk about what they do. My program’s positive and supportive atmosphere encourages non-competitiveness, and cooperation. I promote children’s physical and social self-help, to get along, to understand their differences, and to become independent.
Positive adult and child interaction, as well as daily routines provide opportunities for children to practice and learn pride, respect, honesty, empathy, and peace for themselves and each other. Self-Help skills are encouraged and nurtured, cooperation, and understanding of differences are supported, encouraged, and nurtured. Healthy habits of washing hands, brushing/flossing teeth, eating nutritious food, 'catching' sneezes and coughs, following safety rules and directions (keep our friends safe and keep our things safe), and large motor/physical activity are all practiced daily.
Family resources and parent consulting are available for families, upon each family's request. Family involvement is welcome and encouraged in program activities; especially upon arrival and departure. I have an open door policy, where parents are always welcome to explore and learn with us. I work with each family to set their child's developmental goals for learning. A daily log via ELV (online app) logs daily activities for children in attendance, this informs parents with detail of the child's daily eating/napping/toileting habits, activities done each day, and any other necessary information. I also blog daily on our Facebook, so families can keep up on the daily events occurring at Honeypie Nature Playschool!!!
Parents are encouraged to be an active participant in the program and help to set goals for their child's early education. Conferences are available throughout the year to discuss their child's development and goals, with Child Portfolios available for parents/families to appreciate at all times of the year. An open door policy is maintained at Honeypie Nature Playschool, parents are always welcome to stop in, participate in activities and routines, and make any ideas/suggestions to help improve their child's experience at Honeypie Nature Playschool.
Activities and Creativity
Daily Acitvities and Routine are designed for all learning styles. Parents are informed about the learning objectives and activities through weekly lesson plans and newsletters. Honeypie Nature Playschool encourages children to be engaged in 'free' choice activities throughout the day. There is a balance of quiet and active areas for children to make choice. The daily schedule allows children to play in their interest areas; giving children the feeling of being in control and confident. Honeypie Nature Playschool offers a range of activities and materials that build on children's prior knowledge and encourage thinking, investigating, and problem solving.
Music and Movement
Our daily schedule includes dance and music every day, with a special "Music and Movement Monday" every Monday and "Music Fun Friday" every Friday. Music and movement is used for expressing feelings and working the body. Soft music is used at rest time. Children are exposed to variety of multicultural children's music and dance from other lands and ethnic groups. My multicultural- education goal is to make children familiar with many sounds of variety instruments around the world. We also use music, songs and rhymes as ease transitions from one activity to another.
