Exploring, Learning & Nurturing

"Exploring, Learning, and Nurturing” Honeypie Nature Playschool is a play based and nature-based playschool/family child care program within a family home setting. Honeypie Nature Playschool provides early childhood education through ‘Exploring, Learning, and Nurturing’ while interacting with children in a mixed age group, and with the aid of a primary caregiver. Honeypie Nature Playschool’s program is rooted in the belief that children learn through play; active learning and play is essential parts of Honeypie Nature Playschool’s “play based/nature-based curriculum” in supporting children’s development. Music, art, play, sharing, story, and other forms of learning, provides academic, physical, emotional, and spiritual growth to develop and evolve. Honeypie Nature Playschool embodies an atmosphere of exploring, learning, and nurturing in the natural world both indoors and outdoors. Honeypie Nature Playschool provides a nurturing, comfortable environment indoors and out that is structured to meet the developmental needs of the whole child.
MY PHILOSOPHY
I believe children learn what they live. Providing a rich, nurturing environment which focuses on each child individually, and focusing on the group as a whole, centering the environment and curriculum around the children; comes around full circle teaching young children about nurturing and caring for one another. I believe in the notion of free play in a preschool/early educational classroom. I believe children learn through play; enabling children to learn freely in fun and interesting ways, a child becomes both a learner and a teacher. I provide a mixed age group in my program, which encourages children to "explore, learn, and nurture" with one another. Children truly do learn from their play and interactions with one another.
I strongly believe in learning in our outdoor environment. Research has proven that nature brings peace in times of stress/depression. Exposing our children to as much outdoor time as possible, becoming immersed in the outdoor environment, naturally decreases a child's risk in becoming overstimulated, stressed, depressed, and reduces a child's risk of becoming ill. "Through a process of watching children, I have seen the way that they respond to a variety of environments and the response that staff have had. Phrases used such as "he changes when he has space", "It's that time...we need to take them out", "The baby will sleep well if you take her out." -Clare Warden. I have lived this experience- as a child in my younger years, as a mother of my own four children, and as a provider caring for young children ages 6 weeks-12 years. Nature truly has a way to Nurture.
I believe in partnership with family and the community, this is so important to me as a Mother and as a Provider. Family and the community work together to raise our young children-our future! "It Takes A Village To Raise A Child", this quote truly sums up my belief on educating and caring for young children. I am proud to have my program be such a vital part of the community; through field trips to local businesses, walks around our neighborhoods and to the parks, and trips to our local library. I am also honored to have a long lasting tradition of families enrolled at Honeypie Nature Playschool (past and present) become so supportive of our program, coming for visits to share their time and talents, celebrating our young children with open houses/celebrations, and so much more.
Early Childhood is the stepping-stone that enters children into the rest of their life. It is important that this stepping stone is a strong and sturdy one. I believe that I am a part of that stepping stone, starting them off on their journey. Through my love and support, to providing them with choices and helping to guide them along their way, I am honored to become a part of their lives and to have my program be one of the first stepping stones.
I believe that I must also be a role model, educator, and ambassador to high quality care for young children; because as much of an impact I make in my program, there is always more than I can do to help shape our future. Please see my "About Me" page for more information on what I do to advocate for our young children.
